sump baffle question

its a cast alloy sump, so it probably has to be like this - does it seem correct? will it stop oil surging etc?

No, it wont.

You need vertical plates from side to side and end to end.
Then you put small half moon cut outs at the bottom of each plate to allow the oil to flow from chamber to chamber, but without surging.

You can make a gated baffle by using hinged plates as the doors to allow the oil into the pickup area and hard for it to escape. ie a sort of one way valve.
This is a better way of doing it, but involves more work making the hinged trapdoors.
See the picture of the trapdoor in the baffle

Its just to get the idea of it. You need the vertical baffles to stop it surging about,
and you need the holes / gates to control the flow between the parts of the baffled sump.

Always remember that you must have enough oil available to lube the engine.
ie too small a cut outs or trapdoors and you will get oil starvation and do more damage than if you had a standard sump!

Its something you need to get right.

The horizontal "windage" tray / plate is also useful, and you would want some holes in it to allow the oil to drain into the sections below.
The horizontal tral stops the oil surging up and slapping into the crankshaft.

There are several ways to doing this.
Hope that gets you started.

2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
