No, you do not need an MOT to register. If they insist it does, ask them why it's not listed on the check list of required items at the end of the V55 form and then ask them to show you the regulation that says you do need one.

PS, Nice one!

Congrats. They're telling porky pies. Speak to the local DVLA office as said if they say you need one say where does it say so on the reg forms and explain about that you've just had a four hour f.off MOT test.

Good news on the pass

As prevoiusly stated, You do not need an MOT, there is common confusion on this issue as its not always clear however within the 'latest DVLA's staff training manual' for processing kit cars, is a section that states that an MOT certificate is not required as the SVA/IVA process is deemed to be more than adequate. You may need to draw this paragraph to the attention of the DVLA staff member processing your application. Just can't remember ther page no Grrrrrr

Hi Chris, an Mot is definately not required. A couple of years ago, i was forced into getting an MOT after SVA. Afterwards, i contacted the complaints dept at Swansea, who sent me a refund on the money that i had spent on the MOT, underlining the fact that it was not required. After that re-instruction was sent out to local offices re-enforcing the facts, but new people are employed, some of which dont know the law. So COMPLAIN VERY LOUDLY TO SWANSEA, tell them the name of the person asking for the MOT.

Thank you all, my day has brightened again now.
After many years of building this thing it is nice to finally have my MAC.
the best of it was when she put me on hold and went and asked the Superviosr, who said the same, i politley informed her that i was fairly sure that i didn't need on, and that i would be asking other people before gicing these morons any moew of my money!!
what
I hate people who are inept.
nest question then..... how long to wait, i want to go play....

No mot required but i think it should be for this very reason unless they have altered it for the iva

under sva rules the tyre size and speed rateing is all that was looked at not tread depth or condition therfore you could pass sva with a set of bald tyres thus makeing it illegal once on the road

^^ This would make you MOT every Year.

Better to get a garage to Look round it as a safety check. Without processing it into the MOT syste,

How long it takes is unfortunately a bit of a lottery, I've heard of people (including myself) who have taken all the docs to the local DVLA office and walked out ready to drive once the number plates are made up. Others have taken weeks, don't know why, it's just one of those DVLA oddities.

Well done on the SVA pass btw

You might need an inspection. That is a pain and a completely pointless waste of time. I had to wait 2 weeks for a 3minute inspection. Boo.

No point in getting upset though, you are almost there and it is raining this week.
