Any Merc ML experts

Ive been offered a 2001 ML270 for right money. Black, privacy glass, 7 seater, full leather, low miles and FSH etc etc.

Anyone here know much about them? Anything to watch out for?

No direct experience but....When my RS4 was being recovered by the AA (Bosch Motorsport fuel pump failed) I asked the guy which modern car he had recovered the most....

Merc ML apparently ! Electrics and Gearboxes if memory serves. Also didn't they come last on the JD Power survey for several years ? Apparently it was the Top Gear survey

My Mother in law has one and just to give you a hint of prices. In the last 6 months: power steering pipe £207 , front brake flexi pipe £54,front discs and pads £140. These are trade prices and what we find in the garage is that a lot of parts are Mercedes only.

Im not planning to keep it for long, just looking for main faults to check when i look it over.

EG - freelanders have VC problems so you have to check 4wd works.
Some BMW320D's have turbo issues. That sort of thing.

Cheers,
Darren.

We break a few of them at work and commonly get asked for turbos, engines complete, window regulators, plastic between the rear quarter windows and the tailgate, gearboxes, front propshafts, central locking actuators, rear diffs.

This is not a list of potential problems but purely a list of items that i commonly get asked to price.

the diesel ones have a habit of the injector seats warping which causes them to leak. costs a small fortune to fix as its either a head off job or you need a special vacuum cutter that can do it in situ and avoid swarf going down into the cylinders.

also dont be surprised if you only get 5-6k out of a set of tyres.

if im honest i wouldn't even wish an ml on someone i didn't like

My father had a ML270 diesel. I preferred my 1990 3.9 Range Rover. More comfortable, better looking and better ride.

He's now got an E320 diesel which he got new and I prefer my Espace!

My father-in-law has an ML55 AMG.

No point me even trying to drive it, I can't get the MPG into double figures
