caerbont electronic speedo

just bought one with the magnetic pickup for the 6 bolt heads on the lobro joint. has any-one set one of these up.... i can't make head nor tail of the destuctions which is probably why i picked it up cheap (the guy i got it off couldn't work it out either)
calibration number.
propellor shaft/ tail shaft mounted magnetic sensor (4 pole)
calibration number = tyre revs/unit distance x differential ratio x 4
question
(1) tyre revs in relation to what ..... a mile a yard a year .......
(2) unit distance......
(3) differential ratio (i don't think i need this one do i , if i'm running off the lobro joint)
(4) x 4. (is this 6 in my case cos i've got 6 bolt heads on the lobro)
many thanks for any help
tony

sounds complicated.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I manage to get mine running after some hair pulling moments.
The unit distance can be miles or Kilometers as both are on the speedo.
i used 1kilometer as i measured my whell etc in centimeters.
measure the radius of the back wheel=r.
to obtain the circumference of the tyre 2 x 3.142 x radius(r).
divide 100,000 cm by the result above to obtain how many times the tyre turns in 1 kilometer(unit distance). then use this number times by 4 times again by the diff ratio to get a number closest to one on the sheet to know how to set the dip switches.
hope it helps.

Tony,
Just recently been through all of this with the caerbont electronic speedo, but I used the gearbox sensor, for which there was nowt written!
Try a look at the greenguages site (same people), sorry dont know web address off hand.
If you still get no joy, try emailing carbotech technical help section (as I ended up doing). They are quite helpful.
All I can tell you, is that I am pretty certain that you will x yours by 6.
Sorry I cant be more helpful

to obtain the circumference of the tyre 2 x 3.142 x radius(r).

Or wrap a piece of string round it and then take it off and measure it . That's how we did it for bike speedo.

This follows on from the other page I found and tells you all about different sensors and calibration methods and a link to a calibration table to convert your numbers to switch settings. I hope this helps as I might be looking at one of these in the future
