If you don't mind the image an MX5 is a cracking drivers car, and you'd pick up a tidy one for your budget.

Alternatively one of the kei sports cars e.g. Honda Beat, Suzuki Cappucino would likely put a smile on your face.

1.8 mondeo diesel is cheap insurance. and a good car.

but on a rating of 1-10 on the fun scale it hits a wild 0

if you wanna get something fun see if you can afford to lease a golf 1.9 TDI or something. there about 200 a month and there good cars too and they are cheap insurance.

otherwise get a really fun car like a mr2 and swallow the cost of insurance.

:O)

Love mini's but they are very expensive for what you get (normally a pile of panel welding)
What about a Peugeot 106 Rallye

Something like http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1708897.htm

mine is chipped to 150 BHP. Its well fun. it will also do 65mpg on my route to work. which again is fun. it looks good too.

it dont look as good as my 5 series but that is costly to run to work.

I'd go for an MX5. I wanted one but I needed the auto which meant I had to look at imports which were more expensive and not liked by insurers.
Minis seem to have gone like Beetles price wise, in that you get nothing for your money.

Might be worth looking at some of the fast Volvos and Skodas, I hear they're relatively cheap to insure for the performance.

If you went the new car route you'd be best to look around and see if anyone's offering free insurance as it could work out as a considerable discount.

Don't listen to them, they know not what they say!!!

You know you really want one, and yes, it might not the be fastest or coolest car in the world, but you'll never loose a penny on it's value if you look after it, and the upgrade options are endless, and you'll be smiling everytime you drive it (except when it breaks down!!)

I wasn't 100% sure after I bought mine if I'd done the right thing. But after taking it on a European rally weekend I just fell in love with it, now for more upgrades!!

Cheap to run, cheap to fix, cheap to insure, endless fun to drive.

I certainly wasn't suggesting the mini was a bad idea (I love them), but I assumed the OP had already ruled them out for some reason?

i will have a classic mini up for sale this summer... british racing green and LE :whistling: (from 1990)

that midget looks awsome, sort of makes me want one...

i have seen an mx5 for under £2k somewhere, and you can do quite a bit with them including a hard top, tint the windows and you wont be seen in it !!

citroen 2cv? and turn it into a fun cup car?

Looks good, ask if it's an Mi16 conversion or if it's an original Mi16 engine

No idea what difference it would make but I know you can convert the 1.9 engine to Mi16 with a change of cylinder head and other bits

Nice.
I miss my 205, though all it had in common with that one was they're both white.

Much preferred the Mini to the Pug Craig... I always thought that the 205 was waaaaaay over-rated.

It's an mi16 conversion, non of the 205s had a dohc engine, and this is actually the 1.6 gti originally.

Scott, I think 205s are lovem/hatem and I'm definitely in the first camp.
