Goodwood Festival of bad driving!!!!!! OOOOPS!

Went to the goodwood festival of speed on Thursday and was waiting to take a Volvo S60 out for a spin on track when we heard a car rev it's nut's off then go bang into gear and heard the wheel spin! Then there was shouting, screaming and a big crash! The car was driven by a pro and it seems the engine management failed which caused the revving etc. The G/box was an auto. The car missed everyone (thankfully) and crashed into some tables and chairs narrowly missing a mint E Type Jag. The car then crashed into the doors of the giant marquee.

Sounds like yet another case of "sudden acceleration".
Especially as it was an auto - drivers (even so called skilled ones) swear blind they were pressing the brake when in fact it was the accelerator......

Just thought that the car couldn't have been an Auto as it's a Type R!

The car is/was the new Mugen Honda Type R and the guy actually feinted due to the heat in the arena area just after getting in the car. Ironically, he said it bloody hot in here as he was reaching to switch on the air con. Next thing he is waking up at the far end with a paramedic putting a neck brace on.....

Yup that's what I heard - he feinted. I heard the e-type got dinged though! I think there is a long thread on Pistonheads about it somewhere.

the real question is why would you have an automatic?

The only valid reason for choosing one is having one leg

I now am 100% sure it was a manual as a Type R with auto would be a bit nutz to say the least!
