OT. Mobile companies.. how does it work?
Shopping for a new phone today.... like the galaxy S....
From o2 its £40 a month...(free handset)
If I go to phones4U its £20 per month, again on o2...(free handset)
Anyone know why there is such a price difference?!?
Would much rather buy from 02 direct... but find it weird that theydont have the bestprice..
Anyone know?

i guess its the same sort of thing as quaife. seems they're most expensive to buy direct from quiafe.
i guess they have to offer contracts direct, but rather wouldn't as they can get the money from the contract, while phones4u have to deal with
all the hassle of any fault with phones/bill/etc?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

with o2, you might get the full package
phones 4u will give half that.
I mean, they will charge you 20 but you don't get internet etc.....
O2 most of the times will be a complete package.
Good choise. I have a Galaxy S 16Gb

Could it also be linked to the length of contract

a couple of years ago, i was about to upgrade.
Went to Carphone warehouse.
They offered the same contract with my provider, same money and everything.
They wanted though another 5 quid extra a month to add internet which my provided had included as it was the same tariff.
So yes, any shop like carephone warehouse, phones4u will try to rip you off.
Yes, you might get a different length of contract as well.

Ohh and do not forget to demand to remove any additional packages such as mms if you do not use them.
They try to hide it and get you to pay for it.

And don't forget the 'free' insurance that starts costing after a few months.

1) Contract Small Print - check carefully it's apples for apples
2) Depends on the "bonus" the operator is offering to Phones4U for new subscribers...

Exactly! the blokes that own Carphone Whorehose didnt jump onto the rich-lists byy giving phone users the best bits of their deals with the mobile
providers> Also a friend in Oranges HQ (in Darlington) authorises the payments for comission paid to 3rd party re-sellers, cheques run to £xxxxs
each month!
Def NOT locost! Dont agree to anything you dont want or use! IE, dont pay for 1000mins inclusive if you never use more than 200! !

Phones4u used to be a caldwell company ask anyone in Stoke what they were like nuff said.
In saying that Argos, B&Q and Tesco keep telling you they are the cheapest but we all know they arent.
Check the small print.
How mobile pricing works is the Phone costs X amount when they connect they get a kick back from the network of Y amount plus if they have enough sway
a call percentage not forgetting any hidden extras like insurance calling voicemail length of contract etc etc.
It depends on their buyers savvy in getting the phone from a cheap source and making money over the contact period.
Cheers,
Bob

I had a very bad experience with Phones 4U, A few years ago one location (Millport) I had to use my phone from had very poor exception except for
Orange, so I have always used Orange.
I made it 100% clear I needed a paticular phone and stressing several times it had to be on Orange --- they had exactly the model on display
branded with the Orange logo.
The girl checked the stock then had a long coversation with her boss. Phone appeared she told me it was already set up but the battery needed
charged. A few steps outside the shop in spite of the low battery I got to fire up only to discover I was on Vodafone.
Not best pleased I took it back and had to make my voice heard by every customer in the shop to get a refund.
I have since learned from a ex-3 employee that Phones 4u were pushing customers on Vodafone because it made them an extra kick back.
