xflow cock up !!
Having come off nightshifts (my exuse)
i have managed to finish off assemebly and install my engine all fine!
yet i have not added to the front of of the crankshaft the oil deflector for the front cranshaft seal , basicly a big cup washer, about 2"
round
Question,
do i disasemble a put it back in
or leave it out ??

...mainly deflects oil off the crankshaft oil seal makes it easier for the seal to do its job.
I'd HAVE to dis-assemble and fit it properly but that's just me

why would there be oil on the outside/front of the seal? surely oil would only be on the front of the seal if the seal was knackered?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
i was hoping some would say, its not worth it, but thanks anyway !!!
proves a point, that when tired (just finished 5 nights, with 2.5 hours in bed today)
and rushing to get the engine running, mistakes WILL be made

I think this is a clue... "crankshaft the oil deflector for the front crankshaft seal"
Cross flows don't need much excuse to loose oil, so I'd be tempted not to help it do it and disassemble.

If it leaks oil then you will have to strip it , if it doesn't???. In an ideal world you would fit the deflector

Look at it this way, it's NOT a mistake but a learning curve, in the wrong direction.
But the job still needs to be done.

Are you using a duplex timing gear? I believe the deflector doesn't fit if you are.
I haven't got the deflector in my Xflow (with duplex) and it doesn't seem to leak (it hasn't done many miles yet).
As someone has already said, it is only there to prevent oil from being thrown towards the seal.

Interesting, i might leave it out then
also there is room to fit two crankshaft seals, and i do have a spare ??

I thought the big concave washer thing was an oil slinger?
Its not such a pig of a job to get the cover off with the engine in, you will need to remove the sump bolts which can be a pig to refit once you take
it off, but it can be done.
As said, they don't fit with duplex chains, so you can probably get away without it, but id fit it as it would annoy me knowing it was missing.
