gsxr 600 engine

Hi Guys,

I have in my garage a complete gsxr600 engine that iv had for a few years... i got it from my friend that raced for suzuki and he sold me this engine when he put a crescent engine in his road bike.

To be honest i know very little about the engine...all i know is what my friend told me when i got the engine and that is that the gearbox needs a selector fork as its not very smooth into 2nd and that the engine was running fine before being taken out of the bike, he was a really nice guy so i have no reason not to trust him.

now i think its a 1998 engine but again i can't be sure.

i also have part or maybe all of the loom and ignition barrel and key if thats any good to anyone.

im happy to sell as a unit or break it for parts depending on interest i get, to be honest i would almost be happier selling parts because iv had the engine for about 8 years... its been dry stored but i would hate to sell it to someone and then find out its a dog and won't run

anything you need, make me an offer, the worst i can say is no

ill try and get some pic's tomorrow, iv no doubt someone will be able to tell me what it is i have lol

phil.

If it's really, really cheap, like me, I'll have a gamble and do a rebuild on it.

hey mate,

how much is really, really cheap?

if it helps i could take some of the gamble out of it and take the head off and take pic's of the pistons etc make sure the inside is still nice and clean and also take a look at the crank and make sure that all looks ok too.

iv never worked on a bike engine but it can't be thats hard to just take a quick look inside... can it???

iv had the head off the engine and the head is shot! there is pitting in the metal around the valves so i think its only good for scrap... the rest of the engine though including the valves themselves plus the cam shafts etc are clean and the carbs are complete so i am now selling any parts people want.

I will leave this post up for a week or so before i put bits up on ebay

thanks :-)

This is a GSX R600W/X or Y engine as can be identified by the carburettors with the red Bell mouths. So 1998/99 or 2000 year.

Hope this information will help.

If it can't be fixed with a hammer then its probably an electrical problem.
