autocad 2008
hi i need a bit of help in autocad 2008 when placing construction lines. how do you place a vertical construction line 100mm from the first line then
place 2 horizontal lines to make a 100mmx100mm box.

Just use poly line. Command 'pline'.
Select first point, ortho on and drag across right, type in 100 and enter.. that's your first line 100mm long. Then same again, move mouse down
and type 100 in, then again left and then again up and you've got yourself a box. Poly line is continuous so after you've draw in one
direction just carry onto the next.
Make sense? Not the easiest thing to explain sometimes.

HI
real easy this?
draw first construction line then go to offset, enter,100 enter choose which side to offset, enter,
same for horizontal lines. use ortho to keep them tru 90 degs.

Yup offset is your best friend in Autocad.
You'd be surprised how quickly the sales people at B&Q try and assist you after ignoring you for the past 15 minutes when you try and start a
chainsaw

Yeah you can do it that way, but if you use poly line the box or square will be one entity, not 4 separable lines.

the original question asked for "construction lines" thats why i did it that way, because they go to infinity they are sometimes good for
developing views also.

gilo thanks i only asked to do it this way as thats how i saw a friend do it and it seemed easy but iam finding out its not lo.
tazza54 thanks awesome i didnt no it could be done that easy.
iam building a cnc plasma in my shed so i need to be able to draw basic shapes so i can start cutting them out

if your not used to autocad I've got some stuff I can e-mail to you next week (its for an aloder version, but it gives you all the basics)

Many ways to draw the same thing in Acad, you can practise using co-ordinates
Line > Pick a start point then type
50<0 Enter
50<90 Enter
50<180 Enter
C Enter
First figure is distance second is the angle of the direction you are drawing in C on the last line is short for Close and will finish your line where
you started

im an 'offset' drawer too, used for alot of things in CAD. Problem with cad or 3D cad is theres 20 ways to do the same thing and its only
after you have got stuck will you know which way is better (future proofing).
Solidworks is the same where u draw something up to only find out 2 hours later your stuck or trying to bodge a way round it.
Sorry about my spelling, im an engineer and only work in numbers.

i can draw a plate now with 4 holes and radius the corners and put the measurements on the drawing
