vinyl or paint?
Morning everybody,
I have a bit of a dilemma as what to do with my modified areo screen, i have made one to fit on my viento, but here lies the problem.
Where i have extended it in the middle, filled, faired, filled some more and faired some more i have now reached the stage of changing the colour from
white, in some places its back to clear, but is nice and smooooooooooooth, to black.
I was thinking of covering it in gloss black vinyl wrap BUT i would like to have a go at spray painting as well.
Now i have never spray painted before so there is a huge chance of messing it up big time and throwing money down the drain, but i would like the
skills.
On the other hand do i cover it with gloss black vinyl?
Cheap and easy, should cost about £5 and can be done in a couple of hours and have done some basic vinyl work before.
But i guess the paint will have a better finish (if done well) so i guess some practice before is in order?
And i need this all done and fitted before the end of the month.
So the question is: what would you do?

i guess i could do the vinyl for now and remove it later and spray it

Personally id just get some good quality paint in a rattle can, and spray it. Much easier than messing around stretching vinyl over it to try and
follow the shape tryig not to get air bubble, or wrinkles

a few points, black gloss vinyl is very easy to scratch when fitting can look like its been rubbed with sanding paper.
vinyl really wants to stick best to a gloss painted or gell coat surface. especially when stretched in to concave areas.
if any stretching involved you need a cast type vinyl. preferably with a air escape glue.

I have vinyled and sprayed recently. Both with respectable finishes. I think both would do what you want but the main thing with vinyl is that the
back of what ever you are covering will llol crap. This is because you will want to fold the vinyl over the edge. So in this situation I would spray.
Take your time to prep, use primer, spray and laquour and it will be fine. Read up on here or YouTube for spray tips.

I covered mine in carbon fibre vinyl, see link below. Itwas easy, and I think it looks good!

that looks wicked, good idea, is that the 3m ni doc stuff? did you fold it round the edges? and on the top edge?

im in two minds to do my ally in a satin black vinyl or paint it? dont know which would look better???

Yep it's the di-noc. Easy to wrap around corners with a bit of heat. See the links below, did my rear panel and wing mirrors, among other
things.

That looks awesome, I was thinking of using Di-Noc on my rear arches as stone guards - do you think it would be OK on the rear arches

Yep, I may do the same at some point. With alittle heat, it really can bend to the tightest of curves, so rear wing should be no problem.
