Vulcan bomber
Just had a Vulcan bomber fly over the house, very impressive . Not sure where it's going but it's flying Eastwards over the Duxford area

Think i saw the signs for an air show this weekend when coming back from stansted last sat.... either that or its on its way to libya !!

maybe its been draughted in as a troop carrier for Afghanistan, bomb bay been fitted out with seats...
rather than the modern tristars or vc10s ?

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the 26th Southend Air Festival.
The air show, which has traditionally been held on the Spring Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday, has moved dates this year to the Saturday and Sunday.
The event is recognised as one of the largest free air shows in Europe.
Among the displays are the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Tornado GR4, Red Arrows and the only remaining airborne Vulcan bomber.
Flying is scheduled to begin at 1350 BST on both days.
Former Red Arrows pilot and air show flight director Ray Thilthorpe said the show had been one of the first of its kind when it began in 1986.
'Air show pioneer'
He said: "It was going around the country doing performances at a lot of seaside venues where the Red Arrows were the only item and there were
huge crowds, which I thought was a bit of a waste.
"When I was about to leave the air force, the then chief executive [at Southend council] and town clerk said 'can we do anything at
Southend?'.
"So that's when the Southend and seaside air shows began - it is the pioneer of all seaside shows."
Mr Thilthorpe said he believed one of the highlights of the weekend would be the rare flight of the Vulcan bomber on Saturday afternoon.
He said: "It's flown by a chap called Martin Withers, who in fact was the only man who flew to Falkland Islands [in 1982] and dropped a
stick of bombs across the runway there.
"So the the only time the Vulcan was used in anger was flown by him."
BBC Essex will have commentary of the flying display on 1530 MW and online on both days from 1330 BST.

Think you could be right , in which case I saw the same plane about 20 years ago, in Shropshire flying at about 200ft on its way to be restored.

Heard a story about one at a display which also had lots of american aircraft (may have been in america) - did a tail stand much to everyones
amazement (and put a few american planes / pilots) in their place. Unfortunately i've no idea if its true or able to find the story at the
moment.
Saw the last one fly over coventry when they opened the memorial for Frank Whittle - amazing plane.

yeah , i used to live right under waddington fight path , and still do .
them vulcans were bloody noisy , used to shake the windows .

It was Southend air show at the weekend what a sight and sound shame it not going to fly after 2013 info at the air show says it cost tens of
thousands to keep it per week?
If a little hammer won't fix it get a bigger hammer

They used to be based at RAF Finningley near Doncaster. I lived on the flight path there in a house with aluminium windows. You can imagine the
rattles!!
The last one XH558, is coming back to live here at the now Doncaster Robin Hood airport.
They had an open day a couple of weeks ago, was great to see the old thing on the runway again

First flew 1952... Makes me wonder what we have achieved since, amazing how a world war moves technology on.. Not a lot has changed since really, all
very small incremental changes..

Used to make all the hairs on my arms stand up. Awesome, as for Concorde - Wow!! Now Supersonic passenger flights - only if it can be carbon
neutral(!) 1980's were the time to fly,.....
