Revs not dropping between gears

I have bought a Vauxhall/Opel Meriva 1.6 (16v petrol) as a runabout and it seems a little reluctant to drops its revs between gearchanges (although it does in a second or so ). It isn't really a problem but I'm just curious as to whether it is just a characteristic of this engine or should I start tinkering with it

Cheers,
Raz

Sounds like it needs a turbo and NOS to sort that issue out.

I think you'll find that you've perfected the art of "power on gear sifts". I believe it's a technique used in rally driving to good effect.

It's holding the revs so you don't have to wait for it to pick up again in the higher gear, I'd just get used to it

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

If the revs are dropping after a second or so, you need to work on your obviously slow gear change technique

well im going for lowering it by 60mm and putting some 3 spoke alloys on from circa 1990 that'll fix it

There's nothing like lots and lots of helpful comments when you have a problem

Well all but one of the comments above are nothing like helpful anyway

Ermmmm ...... thanks for the suggestions guys - really erm ......

The little blighter has the official (Irschinger or Schwinger or summat) 'sports pack' fitted so it is already lowered on 17" wheels ...... and it has 'privacy glass' in the back so I guess I am halfway to being a hot hatch driver aren't I

It certainly looks the part (for a mini MPV anyway) but it couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding

Anyway, I think someone sensible ( thanks ashg) suggested the idle control valve might be worth a look - ta muchly
