Shortening Control Cables

I need to shorten my B&M shifter cable... is this something I can do myself, or should I look for 'a man'?

Suggestions for either option most welcome!

Probably best to get another one made up at the aggro you'll have changing it, PM me if your after a cable

that looks a lot like boat control cable and they do a selection of end fittings too
