Clutch plate not centred correctly.
Input shaft need turning slightly.
Needs to be wiggled a bit.

Did they mate correctly when out of the car ?

If there's nothing obviously awry, then as Snuggs says... give it some wiggle!

Clutch etc as it was when came out of mk5 cortina.

Not had box on this engine before as just taken old Sierra engine out.

Daft question, how do I rotate input shaft? And will turning engine over by Han produce same result?

Been wiggling a lot already...

I take it the centreplate is the correct one and will fit the input shaft ??

Depends

2 diiferent sizes of both Cortina and Sierra clutch pressure plates (clutch covers).

Driven plates for the Sierra boxes come in 2 diffrent diameters.
Cortina V used 2 different spline patterens on the gearbox one is the same as the Sierra one isn't -- so 3 different driven plates.

You need to take the clutch over off check the number of splines AND the condition of the clutch, you also need to check the fingers on the clutch pressure plate are the same type as the Sierra if OK reassemble and re-centre the diven plate using an alignment too,

Sierra clutch was much larger than cortina so swapped fly wheel and clutch over onto the cortina lump.
