What's this transaxle?

Just curious to know if it comes from a road car or it's one of these expensive ones made by Elite Racing or similar.

These days I'm liking 4L engines sitting longitudinally in relatively compact mid engined cars such as that Lotus, the Chevron B8 or the Ginetta G12, but I can't find any cost effective transmission options.

It used to be a bettle gearbox casing, it's now a hewland mk5/8/9 depending on internals, good for around 150bhp

Audi is your choice then

Even get a nice v8, V6 or turbo 4pot already bolted on the front with the right donor

Look at GT40's web sites for inspiration

Which is probably the best guarantee that the two make a reliable match up.
