A most frustrating PC problem

Please can someone offer any suggestions:
My monitor has all of a sudden stopped playing any audio. The on screen volume display doesnt show up either when you press the up or down buttons, but if you press menu first, the up and down buttons do work. The most annoying thing about it is that if you leave the audio playing and turn the monitor off, it starts playing!!!!
If it was broken completely id be fine, but it clearly isnt totally kn@*#ered its just winding me up. Anyone had anything like this before? Thanks

If you're running Windows then that's your answer. My laptop does that regularly, use the keyboard volume does nothing, but use the mennu from the system tray and it works fine. I also get the mute button doing similar things.

Windows sucks! Wish I could afford a Mac

It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

Agreed, I've had something similar with Windows. To me it seems like the 'mute' on the device gets out of sync with the 'mute' on Windows. So whenever one switches on, the other switches off. You switching the monitor off could be the monitor being unmuted without affecting the Windows mute, and allowing the audio to get all the way through.

For me I have to mute the device and then unmute both of them through Windows ('no entry' sign on the speaker in the applet try).
