Not much tuning gear for this engine
Twin cam 8 valve, there was a 16v version briefly used in the Escort MK5
125bhp on a good day 16v version allegedly 150bhp
Finding even simple parts like gaskets is not easy with this engine

The above list took about 30 second to produce with "Ford 2.0 twin cam" in the search box and another 4 minutes to add on here. you might also use 'twin cam 8 valve" or "ford 8 valve" or .................................................................................................................. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION.

This forum HATES this engine. All will repeat the same mantra "Heavy with No Tuning" The DOHC 16v engine is in my car and makes a wonderful 165bhp. Didn't require any "tuning gear" and I made my own manifolds. Parts are super easy to find as the engine was effectively in 4 cars (Scorpio, Galaxy, Sierra and Escort). I got mine for £70 off ebay and cost another £150 to fit in the car and run it (chopped sump, bike carbs and exhaust).

Prone to timing chain problems, parts are not cheap, IIRC the last head gasket set I used cost best part of £100 but if you have one ??

And the big one is the timing chain tensioner

The kit

the parts seperatly but added up on ebay are about 1/2 that, obviously not gen ford !.

tbh even at 150 its probably a do it once job ?

even a zetec will need timing parts renewed.

i think that the point being made is that the engine itself is perhaps often unduly disregarded and possibly missrepresented.
it is however a tall and heavy lump of metal

they can be powerfull lumps tho.

If I remember right the tensioner is a one shot wonder. So if you do the gasket, you need a new one. Do the chain at a latter date, you need a new one and its the dear bit in the above kit.

I have had a few dohc sierra/Granada's. From the rare carbed version through to a 4x4 all 8v.
There not that bad an engine but why would you bother when a zetec is so cheap ?

Yes the 16v version will make good cheap power. But you wont get the numbers from the 8v.

Yes this forum isnt keen on the dohc but that goes for any engine you cant buy bolt on goodies for. More and more people want to be able to bolt on bits instead of making them.

IIRC the last head askets gasket set I brought for this engine was around 2002 , it included the timing chain, tensioner and gaskets. As already said the tensioner is a once only usable part and needs to be replaced every time the head has to come off. The Zetec engine is lighter, smaller , easier to work on and modify ,more reliable parts more easily available and they are cheap
