Who can recondition my rack with my quick rack bits?
Hello,
I have a set of quick rack internals, and I need someone to fit them into an old rack I have that I am stuck pulling apart.
I have an old rack, but all the bits are rusty crap, and it wont split. I am happy to fedex my parts to someone.
I am also willing to buy a recon rack, if the seller will strip it and fit my quick rack.
Cheers
Nick

I'm halfway doing this on a sierra rack. Bought a new rack, which i managed to strip last night, going for the rebuild tonight.
What bit are you stuck on? getting the old pinion out?

It's a Sierra Manual rack
I bought a second rack, its dreadful, all corroded and rusty, left Plus Gas working its way into the thread overnight, will see tonight on that
one.
Was not able to release the track rod end whilst the steering rod was in the vice, it just twisted out of the vice. Also couldn't release the
tie rod from the rack.
I still have my original rack fitted on my Trike, but couldn't get the slipper plug cover out, so all in all, I have 2 unworkable racks. But at
least the rack fitted works but is not a quick steer, will it make much difference? Is it really worth the hassle to fit the Quick Rack bits?
I am loathed to buy a third rack, nobody I have spoken to this morning actually recondition's racks, they sell them, but don't do them.
Just been told by Ford in Huddersfield that the spares kit which includes the bearing on the spline, both covers etc is no longer available, so I
guess I will resign myself to the fact that it isn't going to get fitted and just keep the rack on.
I think I will just sell the quick rack internals now

i would recommend a quick rack if you're intending any spirited driving, means you can react quicker to any oversteer, without taking your hands
off the wheel.
I may be help you out, i'll let you know once i've rebuilt and tested mine
However, you should be able to remove the track rod by turning the rack all of the way left, exposing the rack teeth, and clamping that in the vice.
Then use stilsons/large mole grips to remove the rod.
For £35 i bought a new rack to dismantle, which gives me a spare pair of track rods, gaiters and pinion bearing. Reasonable value, and less likely to
be seized.
