Steering rack Help!!

I need to take apart my steering rack. I'm pretty sure it is a MKII. (It came from a Westfield.) There is a large female bolt on the top of the rack. What size is it? Also, what is the thread size/diameter at the end of the rack?

--Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,
the escort racks I've seen don't have the "large female bolt" (is that one that doesn't have any nuts?) - the preload is set with shims.

I've had two ford racks and the tie rods are either M14 or 1/2" UNF.

Hi

My rack looks exactly like this.

If you look at the top, you can see the indention where the female bolt goes. I actually figured out how to remove it last night, but did not have a good look inside (needed to clean the workspace).

Thanks for the thread size. Mine is bigger than 1/2", so I'll try an M14 nut before I order any rod ends.

I'm curious now the steering rack I have. Anyone know the length of their steering rack from end to end?

--Thanks all, Chris

I'm now in a bit of a bind. I need to order my steering extensions from the machine shop. I told them I needed M14 on the steering rack side. They asked what pitch I needed. I told them it was course. I assumed there were two options: fine and course. Does anyone know what pitch I need? Is it 2.0?

I'm a bit new to the metric fastner world.

2.0mm pitch would be coarse and 1.5mm is fine. You can measure the pitch (distance between crests of the threads) yourself with a metric rule.

If you own one, that is! Where the hell is mine?
