According to the wisdom of Uncle Ron; You sit your engine on the garage floor, lower the chassis over it, then raise the chassis on one inch high blocks. Sorted.
Well that's according to Ron.
How many mistakes in his book have you found so far? . . . .

Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

The final position is dependant to an extent on the ancilliaries to be used, ie. manifolds, carbs. alternator. All will influence the final position. Bear in mind the steering shaft position and try to get the gearshift as far back as possible. Bonnet clearance can also be a problem if raising engine too high. Best to try and mock everything up first if you can.

It looks about 5" too far forward to me, set it so you can reach the gearlever from the seating position without having to resort to extensions and mechanisms.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Have now repositioned now only 5mm between starter bulge and tunnel upright cannot go any further back
I am aware that i will have to make a gearlever mechanism to bring it further back

Now just worried about height with my modified sump it should clear bottom rail but sure how high to go with the gearbox end as it stands off the floor propshaft at axle end lies 2 1/2" from bottom of bottom rail with movement up to 4 1/2"
Currently I have it at 3 1/2" half way through its movement.

The block is angled so that the carburetor remains level as you can see in the second photo

Any comments welcome
