Gulf MNR Vortx

Hi Guys,

I've been looking on the forum for a few weeks and thought its about time I said hello

So I have always been a Ford man and I've just sold my Moonstone 3dr to get something a bit cheaper to run and more track focused. I have just bought an MNR Vortx RT from Pure Lotus in Harrogate.

I have been trying to find some history on the car, Chris from MNR has told me the car was originally owned by Dave Watson who race's in the 750 Motor Club / RGB and then they sold it to Chris Simpson from Ripon. If anyone knows anymore info on the car that would be great

I haven't manged to take any photos yet but hopefully the weather will be nice this weekend and i'll be able to use the car, in the meantime I have found this one on here

The car has got a few silly problems so I'm properly going to be pestering you guys quite a bit lol

Regards
Simon

Well, I can help you with it's earliest days. I bought it as a kit from MNR. My blog covers its build, starting here. Sadly a lot of photos are now missing.

It was originally built to go sprinting and hillclimbing - hence the original small fuel tank etc. The recession effectively led me to sell it to Daniel before it was finished and he then made the strides required to convert it to a road-legal car.

Daniel then sold it to Dave.

It's changed quite a lot since I owned it - different wheels, front arches, driver's seat, gear change system, my design of livery (based on the Porsche 908/3 in Gulf livery) never fitted etc.

That car brings back memories.

Tim, remember the day we had chains around the front chassis legs trying to straighten them out after the crash?

Only kidding

Nice car.

Thanks for the info Tim, the guy I got the car from didn't know anything about the car and the only paper work I have with the car is this years MOT and the V5 lol

I think I did stumble across your blog with part of the build the other day

So Question number one lol

The speedo on my MNR isn't working, I have gone back through the old MOT's on-line and the mileage hasn't changed in 3 years

The car has got an aftermarket Koso RX-2 gauge with a magnetic sensor, I have tried moving the sensor within 1mm of the two magnets on the prop shaft and set the gauge to 2 pickup points but no joy. Is it common for these sensors to fail?

Does the sensor have a little LED on top?

It's worth checking the cable as well in case it's broken sonewhere

Also put a multimeter and see if there's any resistance change across the sensor as the magnet passed?

I guess they can go randomly.

Not that I have seen, it looks like this

I will try a multimeter tomorrow and see if it reads any resistance when a magnet pass's the sensor

It certainly did when I had it.

I can't really help on the dash I'm afraid - it was a Veypor VR2 when I built it!

Once I get my overheating issue sorted and suspension setup nicely, we can meet up and have a run out if you like. Be good to get the car on a decent run!
