Sloppy/hard to engage gears after long run

Hi all
My type 9 seems to have developed a problem. After using the car for long period, the gearbox goes sloppy and its hard to engage any gear. Once the car cools, gears fine again.
Used car yesterday and was on motorway for around 20 miles travelling at 70ish. When I came to end of slip road, problem encountered.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Steve

Has the box had a oil change recently or level check?

Car has done just over 1000 miles since last change. Was all done before car went on road a little under 2 years ago. Checked oil level yesterday after it had cooled and all fine.(I thought it may have been low too)

Your clutch cable needs adjusting. Wouldnt be surpirsed if its on its way out.

Adjust it a touch and you should find selection of gears alot easier.

Pretty sure it's the right oil in. Comma 75/90 gl4?
Thought about clutch cable but why would it go ok once engine had cooled down?

Bit of cable heat soak. My old one used todo the exact same. Even more so when it was exhaust side.

Ok. Is there a way to confirm this or just replace and try?
My exhaust is on other side

So I nipped home in my dinner time to check cable. Was a little slack but not a great deal. However I have noticed the gears are sloppy again even with engine gearbox cold. I didn't even start engine.
The gearbox feels like there are no "gates" for the gears( sorry don't know how else to explain) there is no definate position for any of the gears. Could almost stir the gearstick round if that makes any sense.
Are there supposed to be some "gates" in gearbox? Could this have failed? How do I check?

Starting to sound less of an easy fix...

Can you check if you gear stick is properly scrwed into the box? When your there take it out and look at the selection fork.

Ok. Will see if I can look when I get home.
Can all this be done with just tunnel off or does the box need to come out.
How do you get to them?
Thanks
Steve

this is what your looking for beneath the gear lever

If you can see the top of the gearlever mount (triangular plate, with 3 screws) then you can get at the plastic saddle. Undo the screws, lift out the gearstick, then look at where the stick engages - there will be a plastic contrivance there. This can be pulled straight upwards, as it's only held on by a 'clip' moulding. It's obvious once you pull at it!

While you're there, put the box into 1st gear and take a look at the roll pin that holds the thing that the saddle clips on to - make sure that there is a roll pin, and that it's seated nicely. It's not likely to have come out or moved, but it's a cheap and simple thing to look at.

Note: I go with the 'clutch adjustment' theory...

Thanks to all. Will look later. Hopefully be able to see the screws without any major drama.
With reference to clutch adjustment, surely when I tried to put car into gear without engine on or clutch engaged, it would feel like a normal gearbox should do? Mine isn't like that. Can't tell if in a gear and can turn it like a spoon turning in a pan.

It might be as simple as the 3 screws on the gearstick being loose!

Was thinking the same David but was going to ask if he's using a gear lever extension that has rattled loose.

Cheers

That would be nice if simple job like that. Not using extension lever. All original.
Never got chance to look last night. Hopefully will tonight and report back.

Just to close this post.
Took tunnel off and the gearstick was just about being held on with one bolt! Got some more bolts and tightened down with some nut lock and all seems good.
Thanks for help.
