Anyone familiar with DTAfast S Pro ECUs?

Hi All,

I have an S 80 on my Audi powered Ultima and I need to work on two specific areas requiring laptop comms. I have never used the serial comms feature and I was wondering if someone here could tell me if the ECU and supplied software would be useful for the two specific things I need to do, as follows:

1. My ECU was programmed by a specialist using custom maps developed on a rolling road. Depending on an upcoming emissions test, I may need to remap, then restore after test. I'm wondering if the software allows a full dump of the current maps to the laptop for backup purposes. I absolutely need to make sure I can "restore to previous" by myself because this specialist is in the UK, far away from Madrid where the car is.

2. I'm having an issue that looks related to fueling during hard cornering. This would be a lot easier to investigate if the ECU had datalogging capabilities, be it internal (a log which you can read at some point afterwards), be it real time (put the laptop on the passenger seat, wired to the ECU so it logs the data as transmitted by the ECU).

What do you think?

Ive wired an s80 up for a local guy who has put a 20vt into his vw Caddy.

The Map will be locked by any decent mapper. Mappers protect there intellectual property with gusto. So you will not be able to tweek it with out the password. You can over write it and start again.

There was a program written for the older E series ecu's that allowed you to ping the ecu and ask it what the password is.

I am sure the s80 has data logging on it.

the software will allow you to take a full backup as long as its not password protected. Cant say that I agree with the above about all tuners password protecting, there was a recent long running thread about this and my feeling is that if the map is to be locked with a password then it should be made very clear at the time of booking, if you pay for the mans expertise then that map, custom made for your car should, in my opinion be your property.

The S60 we have does indeed do Data Logging, see here:

Graphing can be done on-line to the ECU.

Quick edit to that, I think that you will still be able to make a backup of the map if its password protected but you wont be able to open it for editing purposes which would mean you would have to start from scratch with a new map rather than using your existing one as the base map and editing from there.

You should be able to do both, unless the map is password protected.

Frankly, I won't go to anyone who password protects the map, there's a LOT of functions in there you might want to alter/change/refine after mapping.

Thank you for the most useful responses.

I hadn't thought of this from an intellectual property perspective, but that raises interesting points. In this case, the builder of my car arranged for the ECU to be programmed. To me, they key question would be: was the programming commisioned as a service (in which case the result of the development involved would belong to the builder, as a deliverable) or was it bought as a product (in which case the opposite would be true).

If I find the maps to be password locked, I guess I can always contact the ECU guy (who I've got details for). Since my intentions are most legitimate, I'm sure we can sort something out at reasonable cost.

In any case, I'm glad to hear I'll be able to make a backup just in case the ECU breaks and needs replacing, and the data logging feature will be very useful.
