wiring a start button

childish perhaps but in with the various mods i've done over winter i've decided i need a start button on my indy and do away with the key/barrel/lock set up altogether.

it's a pinto powered car with a vicky green loom. to the original ignition there is:

Brown - battery +?
white - switched live?
white/red - goes to the solenoid but also sounds out if i put my meter to ground?

so i have a simple toggle switch for ignition (with illumination) with a push button start to make it go vroom.

i'm sure i'm just being blonde somewhere as it's only 3 wires to pick from but can someone explain what got to what?

many thanks.

Brown is the feed to the ignition/start switch, so to wire a separate push button you will need to do the following:

- brown to one side of the toggle (ignition) switch, white to the other

- another white wire from the toggle (ignition) switch to the push button

- white/red from push button to starter solenoid

If you haven't got a button yet - I have a savage start button surplus to requirements. It came from my pinto powered Indy

Thanks for the reply, another job I can tick off the list.

Thanks for the offer of the savage switch but I've already bought mine.
