Bloody Electrics!!!!

Hi Guys,

So got most of the other stuff sorted on my car, but for some reason my right hand indicator now comes on when i brake or reverse.... Checked the continuity of the cables at the rear and am seeing continuity between the rear lights, rear brakes, indicators and reverse.

All run on seperate switched live feeds. Initial thought was cabling has got mangled down the tunnel but seems to be perfectly intact. Just ripped the dash back off and looks like i'll be stripping down all the wiring (again).

Just thought i'd have a moan and haven't said much lately

Cheers,
Andy

did you check the earth at the light unit? you will get some continuity through the filaments of the bulb, but that should give you a measurable resistance.

If your earth is ok, take the bulbs out and check again

bad earth would be my guess - when one of the lights is on, the power is being earthed through another..

that's what i thought, i did remove most of the bulbs and still had continuity, but not all of them.
I'll whip out every bulb and try again.

If that fixes it, does that mean i potentially just have a dodgy bulb?

Yes, bad earth, try running an earth from each circuit back to battery or engine/gearbox as well as to the chassis at the rear.

Check the obvious, single filament bulb in a 2 filament holder? See it all the time on customers cars!!!

Also see lots of cheap crap bulbs, that are shorting out internally or just plain poorly assembled
