Coolant Problem

Hi guys took my tiger out or a spin yesterday and the temp gauge went wild. hit 120c and my coolant exploded out everywhere.

thought it may have been an air lock as I replaced a hose at the weekend but I have refilled the coolant and tried to burp the system and it just keeps boiling out until there is nothing left.

I'm running a 2ltr silvertop zetec on a mondeo ecu.

Had thought it may be the temp sensor but i'm not sure how to get at that so any help would be much appreciated as i'm currently a bit stuck for ideas.

Try taking the thermostat out, they can go faulty. Other than that could be HGF unless there is a blockage somewhere?

When cold what happens when you start the engine? cap off expansion bottle?

Has the car been standing unused for a while?

If it's boiling then it'snot just the temp sender isn't telling porkies.

It's over heating either because (in order of likelyhood)...

1. There's an air-lock stopping proper circulation.
2. The fan isn't working (should only be an issue if it only happens when stationary)
3.The stat' is stuck shut and no water is being circulated.
4. The water pump isnt puming water around (impeller failed?).
5. The rad' is blocked.
6. The head gasket has failed and compression gas is getting into the coolant (pos'as a result of 1,2,3,4or5)

1. There's an air-lock stopping proper circulation. Tried squeezing all pipes nothing seems to happen
2. The fan isn't working (should only be an issue if it only happens when stationary) fan kicks in at 92c
3.The stat' is stuck shut and no water is being circulated. Don't no how I would check this.
4. The water pump isnt puming water around (impeller failed?).
5. The rad' is blocked. This isn't blocked ive removed the cap and water pours out when engine running upto temp
6. The head gasket has failed and compression gas is getting into the coolant (pos'as a result of 1,2,3,4or5)

Is it a coincidence that a hose was replaced? Purge the system of air. Be 100% sure it's not that before diagnosing a more serious problem.

Nice one. Fingers crossed it'snot caused any other issues.

Be sure the new stat has a tiny air bleed hole it that lets any trapped air through. Not all new stats have oneand if it doesn't drill one in the base plate (2mm will be enough).
