Ebay exhaust looked good in the pictures, but then.....

Ordered one of these from ebay.

6" dia, 18" long, 2.5" pipe down the middle. Thought that would be good, no sharp edges for IVA etc.
See nice smooth edges.

But this is what turned up!

Look at the edges on that!!
Spoke to the company who said, "yeah, we changed the design, not had issues on kitcars before". Wasnt best pleased. The have now changed the picture that appears in the search listing, but the original pictures are still in the listing!

An exhaust guard would cure it, that said..... the item not as described so if your not happy raise a dispute on that basis?

It's clearly not the one in the original pic, but Wouldn't this be ok for IVA?
I've been through 2 SVAs and they weren't concerned with the silencer edges as "you would burn your self, rather than be affected by the edges"
Both times they did apply common sense when possible

The main problem I have is finding the right size internal pipe, I went for 2.5" because it looked better, most reasonably priced exhausts are 2". The box was about £55 delivered so not the most expensive.

Is the general opinion that it will be ok for iva then? Thought the blunting of edges was in case of crash etc.

At my IVA (last year) they let me cover the edges with edge trim (after the silencer had cooled down )

polymax and a few others do silicon edging that can take 200 - 350 degs which is probably ok for the edges of the silencer

my robin hood exhaust, like yours failed SVA.. trim wasn't permitted as would melt off, I had to bend a bit of ali with edge trim on and clamp in place to make a guard.

Cut a hole in a stainless dog bowl. Slip it over the pipe to make an end cover.

The materials alone would come to more than that, assuming 304 ss & quality wadding.

Sorry if that offends but it is the truth.

You ordered a silencer which was pictured as a smooth unit, with no protruding welded lips, what turned up is not what was pictured, no amount of trim or covers will look as neat as your original intention. I would definitely go for returning it with a full refund and return postage, it is not as described, and not fit for the purpose you intended going by the original description.

Yep had the same issue, saucepan lid is what you need take the knob, off holesaw the centre whack it in off you go.
Took me ages the find the right size though, visiting various cheapo shops with a tape measure measuring saucepan lids.
Cheers,
Bob

He said to take the MK up to the car park, wait till the silencer cooled before putting on the trim, while he made out the pass certificate

you can definitely demand a refund or whatever based on it not being as shown, there are laws against that sort of stuff.

However could you not cut the lip off and re-weld the edges together (assuming it's on the flange that te two parts are joined at)
Small reel of 304 MIG wire should do.

However if you send it back, I [ebay=250879771966]Universal Silencer 4"' 2.5"' x 14"' Exhaust back box Stainless Steel | eBay
