Sierra Diff identification help needed!
Can someone help identify this diff? is it an LSD?

Yes, it is.
To check, you don't have to remove the backplate, you just have to try to rotate the output shafts in opposite directions (with input shaft
free). If it's impossible / very stiff, it's a viscous LSD.

No you are wrong! - That is a Sierra viscous coupled LSD.
 
viscous lsd
The viscous coupling is fitted within the crownwheel split flange.
By the way - the differential is upside down.......

Apologies chaps, I need some new glasses , I new it did not look like my ATB 7.5" LSD fitted in my V8 Westy as you can't see the planet
gears on that.
Just to add the ratio should be stamped on the crown wheel, if not count the teeth on the crown wheel and divide by the number of teeth on the
pinion.

Sierra viscous works between crown and one shaft, rather than between both shafts as you'd assume.
Beware! Bourettes is binfectious.

that's because you ATB doesn't have planet gears like that at all - it replaces everything in the case except the crown wheel and pinion
if you open up an ATB it looks like this inside:
and this thread shows whats inside the ford LSD bit (I wouldn't recommend opening your own one to find out!)

Thanks for the helpful replies I am picking the diff up on Friday so I have not had the chance to cast my eyes over it yet, it does appear to be
viscous lsd then thats good news.
