chassis number

I've heard that you can no longer make up a chassis number yourself and have to ask dvla to allocate one. Is this correct?
And if so does anyone have contact details for whatever part of the dvla I need to get one allocated. Thanks

Try having a read through the forum before posting questions. I was going to link you to a thread about ten down from yours which explains the whole process and has addresses and contact numbers but I'm going to be awkward and let you do it

Well thats not very nice - it wasn't exactly a stupid or obvious question. More to the point this forum is full of conflicting info about this. Also Paul Jepson the self styled dvla expert advertising in kitcar magazine is adamant I can still make one up - I emailed him this month(although I suspect he may be mistaken on this)

But anyway going on the most recent thread I can find here:
http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=194256

It looks like this what I'm after:
DONNA KENNET,
MASET
F.D4
DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1ZZ

Can anyone confirm its correct and if I actually need to get one allocated.

Yes, you'll have to get the VIN from the DVLA. A chap on the Haynes forum (Stot, think he's on here as well) did originally have a made up VIN, but in the end had to get a DVLA assigned one.

The address looks right and Donna Kennet rings a bell, but it would be worth double checking. Stot has posted his completed forms (and successfully went through IVA and registration) etc over on the Haynes forum.

Although I didn't address tit to Donna it was her who did mine.

She also sent the v55/5 form and build form v621 or whatever it is when providing the vin.

So when you pass IVA you have all the forms you need ready

I remember going back a few years to when I sva'd mine. ( before iva) dvla local office (also gone now) insisted that they had to assign vin, I insisted not!! In the end they agreed with my after much debate

Has been 2 and half weeks since I wrote in and haven't heard anything back. Should I go chasing it or is that a normal time to wait?

Chassis number has arrived so it takes about a month all in.

Right as far as stamping the vin plate what do I put for year of manufacture. Do I put the donor year. Or 2014 or do I wait til I have it through IVA which will probably take me to next year

...or indeed, leave it blank. I've just looked and mine came from the factory with just the vin number and nothing else filled in.
