Universal Flex Disc / Guibo
I'm in the process of building a sand rail (new frame over a beetle chassis). Its not a Lotus 7 style car, but hopefully you wont mind me
posting here!
I've decided to go bike engine, and have a ZZR1100 and freelander diff.
The original chassis configuration rear engined, so I'm keeping it that way. I did think about making it mid-engined. as there are no back seats
it might work. But I think the engine will be up too high.
anyway.. as the engine and diff are independently mounted on bushes I think it would be a good idea to use a guibo to absorb flex/movement.
As the engine and gearbox are so close, its not really possible to use a UJ.
so something similar to this...
From what I've seen the guibo can really only be used with a three bolt flange. Both the diff and prop adapter are 4 bolt. How do I get round
this?
Thanks!

For rear engine position - Don't forget to invert the differential otherwise you will have 6 reverse gears.

Make up a Urethane adaptor like this marine version.

thanks, thats definitely the kind of thing I'm looking for!
the bolt holes are recessed which would work too. They look expensive though!
I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to buy a used BMW propshaft, cut the very ends off that have the three bolt arrangement. Then weld them up
to the sprocket and diff.
That way I can use the standard BMW guibo.
I'd be looking at £20 for the prop and £20 for the guibio.

I think its going to be easier to fabricate a subframe to rigidly mount the engine/diff.
then use rubber mounts to insulate it from the body.
