Yes, Steve. Had problem with the online car tax form. It insisted I needed an MoT, (not until end July), and wouldn't let me select 1st May start date (insisted to start from 1st April!. Went to local Post Office, paid up having presented V5 & insurance cert. Very straightforward - it works!

'Course I wanted 1st May; intended to drive to Stoneleigh. Alas, couldn't get the engine to turn over; gotta sort out the starter.

@ Steve M
Mine was on SORN. Tried to tax it for May 1 on April 29 at Post Office and they said I couldn't do it. But did it on line 1st May no problem and had a very nice time getting lost in rural Kent.
It's not immediately obvious whish is the reference number they want.

If it's on SORN your can only tax in the current month.... So just taxed on the 1st May worked fine for me...

I was in the current month, as I posted this on the 02/05

I had been trying from the 01st with numerous failed attempts

Interestingly the DVLA suggest the on-line tax service is "beta" so it may not work for all yet it's been like that for years
