Decisions

Hi guys

New to the forum and I'm looking at getting my first Because, but can't decide which.

Choice I've come down to is, MK Indy, SKC raptor and a Riot.

Going to hopefully be used for the odd road run but mainly track use

All and and info and guidance appreciated

The raptor is a rebadged indy any way. So that's it narrowed down to 2

I'm biased as I have an MK Indyblade. If I was using the car more on the road I might, just might, have considered a cec build. But as it is mainly for track days my Fireblade engined car is superb. I use the early engines with carb's. They are simple, easy to change and still cheaply available. On track on Toyo 888's the grip is excellent and it outruns nearly every other type of car. I would have know hesitation in recommending MK, the guys at MK are very friendly and helpful too.

I built an MK Indy and loved it, but have since taken a shine to the Riot as well so a difficult choice. Given the option now I'd probably opt for the Riot to do something different. Whilst the MK Indy was good it was another 7 type car and did look like the others too.

Two very different cars (other than their minimal looks), one Front engine rear drive, one mid/rear ending rear drive.

I would always suggest spending a few pounds now visiting the factories, taking a test drive and chatting to the guys who make them. Remembering that you WILL require factory support and so this will give you the best indication as to whether you are likely to get it. £50 of petrol now will save hours and lots of £ later by buying the right kit with good factory support (this is the reason I built a Fisher, Mark was very good at answering the phone and sorting out problems).

If you are considering the RIOT then i would also add the Sylva J15 (in new hands) to the list, very similar underneath (same designer) but with the 60's body to give a bit of aero help (better top end and slightly better in weather).

personally if I were going for a Seven it would be the MNR Vortx Mazda or RT kit, gets good write ups and generally good experience with the factory and looks good value for money.

I guess you also need to decide BEC or CEC and what you will be using it for ? No that is a whole new debate.

A well built Indy is a nice car but for mostly track useI'd go Riot.

Riot with the new 1.6 Ecoboost tuned to around 300hp (fairly simple with stock internals) would be certainly keep you on your toes.

For a home build I would hazard a guess at between £12k and £15k to get it to a good and reliable standard. Give xmoor a call as they do the 1.6 ecoboost for the riot on their website. To be honest most kits these days need a £10k budget just to put a decent 200hp seven together. Dont forget to put aside £1k to get you through iva test.

Also, as the power goes up the rest of the car also needs to be capable of handling the power so better brakes and tyres and possibly a lsd as well.

If you want an idea of what 400hp in a lightweight car is like search jeffw on here and watch the videos of his supercharged zetec phoenix.

i will admit to being a little Biased with the Raptor but don't take my word, pop down to see Andy at the other side of Edinburgh and I am sure he will take you out in his demonstrator with a Big Bang R1 Engine in his Raptor RR.

Would take you out in mine but i am in Africa right now (work)
