locost gear change extention

I have just dropped the engine and box into my locost (cross flow and four speed) and as per most pics I've seen, the gear lever is close to the dash, I've seen a lot of bent gear levers and I don't like the look of them, and suspect it will be out of reach.
I've seen a picture of an extension mod some time back and now cant find it anywhere on Google.
can anybody help please with pics or a link.

Thanks in advance.

PS is there a way of searching such a topic on this forum

Gearchange Extension

Check out David Jenkins website - http://www.lathyrus.eu.

He made home-brewed 'change extensions for both 5 & 4 speed boxes.

Work-in-Progress: Changed to Zetec + T9. Still trying!!

I've only used it on a 5-speed - I don't know how the stick fits on a 4-speed, so i can't comment on that.

David - Thanks for clarifying that. It was this old thread which led me to believe that you had modified a 4 speed Ford gearchange -

I gave up with any fancy trick items that didnt work, as to stiff or were to sloppy and lacked any real feel, so
I moved the whole engine and gear box back 2"

Not an easy task, and I needed a shorter propshaft, and a new Burtons quick shift,

I could still do with a longer left arm but have to say the current system works well

Hi All
Especially Phil M for the photo, I've seen the 5 speed mods which are great because you can mount the extension to the gearbox.
The photo I've seen of 4 speed jobs shows the extension bolted straight through a hole drilled in the gear stick with small flats filed either side, I would think that would have made it all a bit floppy, the photo Phil M posted shows a plate welded or bolted on (cant quite see in the photo) which give a larger surface area to cut down on play. I will be doing something similar and will post some pics.
but that will not be to soon as you know how long these builds can take time.
It would be nice to see if I can find a way of attaching it all to the gearbox instead of to the chassis

It's worked really well over the years, but I'm still to improve it.

my modified gear change and handbrake.

finally modified my gear change.
LOOK AT MY PHOTO ACHIVE FOR PHOTOS
I also repositioned the handbrake to the side of the transmission tunnel as per my last 2 Jeremy Philips cars.
I hope you like my Heath Robinson reverse gate.
I thought of all different ways to do it and my son said do it this way, can leave the drop bolt out when doing auto tests.
