Should I go for 1.8 or 2.0 Zetec ECU?

Hi All,

I am putting in a 1.8 blacktop with 2.0 cams, ford EFI and a single TB plenum from Kits Spares or equivalent.

I would like to avoid using a rarer and more expensive R1800i ECU - could I use a standard 2.0 ECU? I'm thinking that the power output and flow will be closer to a standard 2.0 than a 1.8, and i think the injectors are the same.

Or is it more complicated than that? MAF & Sensors different etc...?

Thanks

I'm not sure how well it would run but I would have thought it would overfuel and surely a different map for the two engines. I would have thought something like a megajolt and rolling road session would be required to get the best running possible.

Big_wasa's your man on Zetecs, sure he'll be along soon to help out.

The joy of the oem ecu is to keep it simple and plug and play. Start making mods and your on your own a bit.

I personally feel it will cope fine with the 2.0 ecu especially with breathing mods for inlet and exhaust.

Keep the sensors like Maf, tps and so on matched to the ecu and not the engine. I prefer the latter pats ecu's for the better diagnostics.

I wouldn't give an rs1800 ecu garage space let alone pay a premium for it.

Thanks for the input guys. Would the 2.0 ECU be ok with the 1.8 injectors?
