EV ICE replacement suggestions
Hi,
As some of you know I own a Nissan Leaf and my mum who loves it is now wanting to buy it from me. On consideration I think I'll take her up on
this and instead buy a 90s petrol car, one that is simple to work on and can go much longer trips than the EV. I did think about getting another
Nissan Bluebird as I love them but they are expensive now and parts were getting difficult. So I'm open to sensible suggestions. So being a very
fussy bugger it needs to meet the following -
Not be a rustbucket, not cost more than £4000, be at least a 1.6, prefer an estate for carrying my model boats, good parts availablity, petrol, get at
least 38 mpg.
Ok not that fussy really, I'm sure there are plenty of possibilities. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I'm a BMW fan so I would suggest an E39 Touring if you can find one to match your other criteria.
There are a few on
AutoTrader just now.
Actually a couple of those are the later E61 model which is what I drive as my daily driver. Mine is an E61 535d from 2008 which is the face lifted
model. Fantastic car to drive and pretty easy to maintain too.

Well, I've had a couple of Insignia diesel estates (up to about 2017, so not the new shape) and love them. If I could afford it, I'd have
another.
Best bit - 70 - 80 mpg (get the 170 bhp version and it'll do 145mph)
I know you said petrol but ...

As it happens Im looking at them at the moment to carry our dog and other things in

Thanks for the suggestions, so far I have narrowed it down to a 1999 Nissan Primera 2ltr TDI with very low miles, looks exactly what I need and
although not LEZ compliant the road tax is not all that much a month and would probably offset that from the mpg.
Thanks jacko for the suggestion of a van but they are too thistly and I'm not a fan of such big vehicles even if they are great at carrying
things.

a slightly different approach to the van,
have you thought about a hearse ?
definitely has the load space for the boats

I would of suggested a Volvo 940 estate.

Well no tbh I certainly did not consider one of those! I can just imagine the kids face when I turned up at school with that, I'm not sure if
they'd even get in it considering the previous occupants...
You could do a modern take on the Ghostbusters car maybe or might make a good stealth camper conversion, certainly not likely to be thrashed either

I've had my fill of Volvo's, they're very complex and expensive to run.
I've put a deposit on the Nissan Primera and am picking it up (long trip) on Friday, a very nice modern classic that will suit me just fine.
Thanks.

just tell them, previous occupants were just passing through, and, that they, have now moved to their new haunts.
