Terminating a handbrake cable
On my car I have the normal MX5 rear handbrake cables coming to the balance plate, with a single cable going to the handbrake. The single cable to the
handbrake was completely wrong for my layout, so I got a random cable off Ebay (A Seat ibiza one I think), with a view to cutting the inner cable to
the right length and re-terminating it.
Problem is I've screwed up the termination. I was aiming for the 'blob of weld', but the weld actually made the cable brittle and in
the end it just snapped off. Thankfully I saw it happen as I was putting things together, and not as I was taking it to IVA!
I'm about to order a similar cable and go for attempt 2, but before I do how do I terminate this one? Obviously whatever the cable is made of
doesn't like heat so I'm guessing a mechanical termination is needed.
For reference, this is the balance plate used on the MX5;
The centre cable attachment in the pic has been drilled out and is to be replaced by 'something'.

Google "solderless cable nipples". The ones with a headless allen screw can generally be done up tighter than the more common flat blade
screwdriver type.
