Hi and Welcome.

Mk specialise in bike engined cars so you could not go far wrong with one of those..... and you wouldn’t have to weld a chassis together either!!

If you look on the MK Indy forum you will see most people there are building Indy's. They will have a link to their photo archives just above the word Building on the left. Click on it and you will be able to see their cars etc.

my opinion don't even think about getting a car engined one, go for the bike and get the fastest one you can afford. they are so much fun!!! Rescued attachment donnington1.JPG

Hi

I near colchester and am building an MK Indy with an R1 engine.... whilst I'm not far through the build I have all the bits and am impressed with the quality of fit and finish.

I am currently just finishing off a Locost build by someone else and am already thinking of my second project.

I'm interested in a BEC but I have three reservations.

1) Cost - What is a sensible budget for say an MK R1

2) Complexity - How hard are they to put together

3) Practicality - Assuming it's a just for fun road blast and occasional track car would a CEC be more practical. How far can you go before the noise gets a bit wearing.

Guess they are pretty broad questions and probably the main CEC/BEC issues so I though answers might help JIZZSTER too.

I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

1- £6k upwards for a nice car.

2- No more difficult than a CEC i would think. in some cases BEC is easier as the engine , starter, alt and gearbox are all in 1 unit. The wiring is easy too (apparently!)

3- CEC's are far more practical if you just want to drive to meets etc but BEC's are unbeatable if you are a hooligan and for track.

If i were you i would see if you can drive a BEC in normal trafic to see if it suits you as this will be where you will probably be doing most of your driving.

as donut says at least budget 6k Id say 7 for an R1

if you want to use second hand wheels used brake/shit brake parts etc

then you could bring this down considerably wouldnt reccomend it though

I'd recommend the Velocity (if you want a very easy build). So If you want to have a look before you buy, I can't be far away. Not quite on the road just yet though (95%+ done).

Steve, have a look at the build and rebuild diaries on our website to see how easy an MK goes together.

Try and get a ride in both car engined and bike engined variants and decide which is best for you. Then go look for a bike engine

If he was truly non biassed he would also suggest a visit to Mac#1 as well whilst in the area
