Took a grinder to the new car today!

Hi All

I've started on the ftting of my Blackbird engine in my Swift single seater - this necessitated removing some chassis tubes before rough fitting the engine. It felt a bit strange but I did enjoy it eventually!

There are some photos of the engine and diff etc sitting in its rough position at:

Hi Joe

My first event is a hillclimb in Ireland (Welsh championship!!) on the 1st April. I'll have to pull my finger out big time to get ready for that! It's probably not the best event to try and get used to a new car, especially as I've never been there before. But, I have to have a deadline!

Regards

Wyn

Hi Both

It seemed like I achieved a lot yesterday but I'm not the one who will be welding it all back together again! That'll be the slow bit! I've jsut sold the Locost and Zetec engine so I have a bit of cash to keep me going. Hopefully the Hewland gearbox and bits will sell quite easily so that should stop me having to dip into the bank again!

I'm hoping to get the car off to my mate's place soon for fabricating the rear end. I'll have nothing to do in the garage then but it'll give me a chance to deal with the big list of things swmbo has for me!

It's the Powertec unit - cush drive / reduction gears / reverse and LSD all in one box. It's 25kg in weight but I guess if I used a chain, sprocket, diff and reverse mechanism these would all add up to something close. The beuaty of this all in one unit is that it only needs two mounting points so is pretty easy to fit.

It's the unit used on a lot of Radicals.

Hi
Re the Powertec diff - how much does it cost, does it fit any bike engine, are different diff ratios available? You might like to take a look at my car www.furorecars.co.uk
Cheers Russ

Hi Russ

The Powertec units were around the £2700 mark although I didn't pay that and I think they've dropped a lot.

They'll fit any bike engine - you just need the appropriate cush drive to fit and some minor changes to the clutch mechanism.

The ratios are interchangable - just unbolt the cover, remove the two gears and drop in the new ones. I have two sets but can see me just using the sprrint gears.

Nice web site - awesome car - bonkers idea!
