Mazda RX-8 Wankel Engine
Do any of you know where I can get hold of a Mazda Renesis rotary engine as used in the RX8?
Id be obligued if you could let me know.
I'd also appreciate your opinions about how much an engine, gearbox (with ancillaries) should cost.
Have fun and keep the revs up.

They're offered for sale quite frequently on the Amerian e-bay site... usually between $2500 and $4000. Then you need to get the gearbox, which
would set you back another $1000 to $2000 last time I checked... these are not cheap engines..

I done some work with an RX7 owner,
my opinion of the engine is its a mechanical masterpiece! Sadly they didn't take off in the real world because of the horrendously bad economy.
Which is so bad an american chap built a drag car using an RX7 car with a 7.3 chevvy V8 if i remember correctly, tuned to 700hp it was still more
economical than the standard rotory.
Anyway after my friends engine blowing and scouring for a replacement rather than a rebuild (a foolish plan because as you would imagine the
replacement blew too) we discovered that on the RX7 automatic engines will only fit automatic boxes, You could probably make one fit a manual but im
not sure on the difficulties of it.
IMO, you are best off looking for an engine with a blown apex seal and replacing them with uprated items. If i were to buy an Rx7 that would be the
route i would take, its cheaper engine to begin with and probably better economy as it would be a brand new engine you wont need to worry about.

I have a few leads to follow and I will report back in the engine/transmission section about weight, size etc when I get an engine.
