I'm Jealous of Japanese DSL offers

I recently came across an e-mail sent to one of the lists I’m on with information on Japanese VDSL services. It provides a sobering reminder of just how unbelievably slow (and, at the same time, expensive) broadband services are in the US and many other countries. Here’s a brief list:

BIGLOBE NTT East B-Flets VDSL (East Japan): $52.77 100Mbps/100Mbps

NIFTY NTT West B-Flets VDSL (West Japan) $48.56 100Mbps/100Mbps

BB. Excite NTT East B-Flets VDSL $51.15 100Mbps/100Mbps

USEN broad-gate 01 LAN type: $43.08 100Mbps/100Mbps

NIFTY TEPCO VDSL type: $38.59 100Mbps/100Mbps

NIFTY TEPCO E type: $33.21 100Mbps/100Mbps

KDDI Hikari Plus-Net DION (VDSL): $35.00 100Mbps/ 35Mbps

USEN broad-gate 01 VDSL type: $25.47 100Mbps/ 50MbpsAverage: $41.00 for a 100Mbps/85Mbps line.

Its not just the Japs. The French standard Broadband connection is now a minimum of 20meg, and most isp`s charge about 20-30euros a month.

Im paying £20 per month for a 1 meg line

And I'm paying that for half a meg. I'm right on the limit for my exchange.

Fantastic......

£15 a month for 2meg. I'm sure someone on here has 8 or 10 meg but thats about the max in this country, and its no use if yours is the only line with it as the connection is only as fast as the slowest bit.
