Just had a search for specs on the almera, looks pretty good, solid and rapid, but wanted something more of a cult status car which is what the others on my list are I suppose.

Cheers,
Oli

with the money you want to spend,i would say the Clio or 200sx, would probably be trouble, should get a nice 205 and have cash left to spend on goodies for it though

hmmm renault 5 gt, hadn't thought of that one - bit mechanically fragile aren't they?

Yeah drifting is great, saw that pickup (P100?) at rockinghams gt battle last year, bit of a laff

pug 205 for me mate, ive had a couple now and for the money i dont think theres anything quite like it in smiles per pound! tidy ones are typically 6-800 quid, leaves you some dough left to trick it up. Awesome daily driver/weekend track tool.

If I were to get a 205 I'd want a minter, so would be prepared to pay around 1800 quid or so

that sort of money would buy you a very nice low mileage late one with power steering and the nicer black trim, so id say go for it! aside from the usual odd idling/tickover problems they all encounter at some point they are pretty bullet proof, trim seems to suffer most. Gets my vote!

Yeah lookin good on the 205, plus it's only like an extra 60 quid insurance for me over my 1.4 clio!

Or *sits down and ducks*

A Redtop or LET Nova, might even get an old Mr2 for that kinda money

205 gets my vote. The only thing that would put me off the one on ebay is the red crapet.

The 205GTi's all had red carpet.

Porsche 944's are available for your price - solid, reliable, driftable.

cult status = 205 !

Buy an expensive mint one , or buy a cheap one and (if you like) put a 16v engine in!

205 GTi gets my vote i loved every second in mine, just make sure you get a late model.

if your not bothered about rallying it then save a few quid and get one with a sun roof. as no body wants them they are much cheaper

E30 BMW 318is (G/H reg)

make sure its the 4 pot 16v and has the lsd as std.

Great fun car, fantastic for drifting and wont have the same reliablity headaches as a 200sx

get a good one for £1500

BMW 318 would be fun but forgot to add I'd like a J plate or newer because I have a private number plate that starts with a J, so wouldn't be able to put it on anything older and don't think you can get the oldskool 318 on a J.

Looking more like a late model 205 1.9gti as my next car, gotta find a minter now though! Anything to look out for worth mentioning?

Thanks,
Oli

If you fancy something more cult status, go for the 200SX. It's got quite a following and for good reasons.

I must admit that I miss mine - 300bhp and rear wheel drive .............. [sniff]

Yeah the 200s are awesome, white is the colour I'd go for too, standard body though with some drift goodies attached.

The CA18 engine is a bit fragile tho regards the big ends. I'd love an S13 with an S14 SR20 engine in it though, got a mate with one and it goes like stink

This is him in action, I love the untidy look on cars like this:
