Another moral(?) issue

At the end of December I re-taxed my tin-top for six months. Saturday morning, the place was awash with pensioners and parcels.
When I came to put the disc in the windscreen I realise it's a 12 month one.

Now what?

I would wait and see if they send you a renewal notice in 6 months, if they do then they will have registered you as paying for 6 months and you were wrongly given a 12 month disk, if you dont receive a renewal then, cheers easy just get a new disk next december, you cant be done for not displaying a valid tax disc.

They also have another offence of "fraudulent use of tax disc" as I found to my cost when I was young and silly I personally wouldnt take the risk.

imho i would go back and sort it
think you may be ok for at least 6 months
but they now no if you taxed tested and insured (which you already no).

i once bought a car with 5 monthx taX on it, then about 2 weeks later recieved a letter saying i had to hand the tax disc in and retax it,
phoned and asked why, they replied the chap who had it used a rubber cheque,
and renders the disc worthless .

you could see what happends in 6 months

but i'd drop them a call as i'm sure the post office would of made a loss so a bit unfair

Hi All,

I bought my bike in '98. It was 10 months old with 2700 on the clock.
£1000 cheaper than a new one.
The bloke said he'd removed the tax disc in case it was stolen, and he
would find it and drop it in to me. (only 7 miles away) He never did.

When the V5 came back from Swansea the bike was registered as a

YAMAHA
YZF 1000R
MOPED

WOW! A 1000 cc, 170 mph, Moped ?????

Sent it back and got it changed.

In 2002 I was done for speeding, 81 in a 60.
(open straight road, not another vehicle in sight, copper behind a bush, blah, blah.)

The point is he went over the bike with a fine toothed comb. He would have spotted a £15 tax disc.
Then there's the insurance issue, not taxed = insurance void with some companies.

im certain you will recieve a renewal notice in 6 month, and they've just filled out the wrong disc. Id take it back on the grounds that theres nothing to gain by keeping it.

Just before i sold my GT4 the insurance was due for renewal, One reason among many why i sold it.

Before i renewed my insurance i changed car and was waiting for the policy to end its term before changing vehicle as i still had the GT4 was going to get the most out of the insane cost of insuring it.

Anywho 2 weeks before the policy ended the company sent me a new policy renewing my insurance with them for the next 12 months, I called them and they knew nothing of it so if i were to get pulled over it wouldn't come up on computer but i would have had documentation showing i was insured, good job i was changing car and checked!

What's "car tax" I've never heard of it and the car seems to run fine without it.

Cheers

Ignore it. You can always plead ignorance.

You can always plead ignorance.

Ignorance is no defence in the eyes of the law. The Post Office will pick it up when they come to do their audit and are down on the months' takings. It will have to be made up from somewhere or put right.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

surely not your mistake at worst youl get a letter asking you to surrender the disc to be replaced with an appropriate one?

would be nice to get a little bonus though

ive only ever had one government cock up with a vat demand on a car i imported from the channel islands unfortunately they couldnt understand the vin number so charged me vat on 92 vauxhall carlton saloon to the tune of £57.00 instead of the £1600 it would have been had they done their job properly

Well I went in the Post Office today.
They can't sort it, so I've got to get on to DVLA and sort out their c*ck up

It'll be done at my convenience now!!

I see the other moral dilemma is at 85% pay the bloke, this is more even, what does that say for our attitude towards government?

if they can't sort it at the post office, i'd leave it.

apparently i need to send the sorn reminder off to dvla for my donor with a covering letter all because leeds local office can't process it right in the first place!

if they need it, they can chase me for it, and if they still want me to send it off, they can have an invoice for a first class stamp and my time pratting about sorting them out. it's already cost work for 2 phone calls to the 'hotline' to try sort it out

I'd like the opportunity to put this into practice one day, by taking ALL statute books into court and asking

"You expect me to know all this!!!!!!!!

Bearing in mind we have nearly a thousand years of law, I think the case would stand up quite well!
