Sort of like lightly spicy mince. Not to everyones taste but I like it....... but best not to think too much about what's in it ...........

Heres a traditional haggis recipe, though there are lots fo different versions!

1 sheep's stomach bag
2 lb. dry oatmeal
1 lb. suet
1 lb. lamb's liver (heart and lung sometimes used as well)
2 1/2 cups stock
1 large chopped onion
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper, Jamaica pepper and salt

Boil liver and parboil the onion, then mince them together. Lightly brown the oatmeal. Mix all ingredients together. Fill the sheep's pluck (stomach) with the mixture pressing it down to remove all the air, and sew up securely. Prick the haggis in several places so that it does not burst. Place haggis in boiling water and boil slowly for 4-5 hours. Serves approximately 12.

I bought a haggis once. Instructions said to gently boil it for 50 minutes or something. I was in a rush so I boiled it slightly less gently. The stomach burst and the guts spread all round the pan. Looked like brain matter.

Needless to say it wasn't really presentable as a meal at that time, but I did have a taste and it was actually quite nice - slightly spicy.

I like black pudding too - just have to close my mind of any thought of what it's actually made of before I eat it! Though, I guess that's no different to eating a McDonalds really

Re digestive biscuits they're actually oatcakes. A tasty treat eaten by good looking scots (and prob one or two ugly ones). It is a lovely wholesome meal for Kilted warriors. I would recommend it to anyone.

Haggis as stated is made from offal, its offally good

Thats what we tell everyone so they wont want to eat it leaving plenty for us, as its well known that the Haggis, a wee creature indiginous to Scotland with left legs shorter than right legs (3 each side) so they are flat and level when standing on a hillside, that s why there are rare cause its only occasionally you get a daft one that tries to stand round the other way, and rolls down the hill into the waiting haggis nets, the canny ones do escape and with 6 legs they go like guanno off a polished shovel, but the daft ones are more tender.

Havent had any of that stuff in ages. Cockburns butchers in Dingwall is the best by far. I dont see how some peeps think its digestives.
