Speedo Cable!

Thanks for all your help on this forum, I finally get my car back and the road and....

The speedo stops working. The engine is a 1300xflow I am pretty sure there is a cable that runs from the dial and into the transmission somewhere! Ive been underneath tonight and had a look. It seems there is a small square hole in a little 'prong' that sticks out just before the prop and the cable seems to have been pressed into a square shape at the end.

Has it just fallen out and needs sticking back in? How do I secure the cable in the hole?

Pics (sorry for the quality, they're off my phone and I was in a very awkward position):

there should be an internal circlip which goes inside the casting on top of the cable once it is pushed home.

I guess it has fallen out and got lost so you will need another.

if the cable still has the square end on it then it has not snapped at the gearbox end.. normally the cables cover has got a flared end that fits in the hole on the box and is secured with a circlip that sits in a small groove that you can just about see in the photo
