Trackday Noise Limits

Was wondering what the protocol is for measuring static BEC noise limits on trackdays? Do they measure at 3/4 of rev limit or something? And are they savvy as to the rev limit of the various engines yet?

Unfortunately they do measure at 3/4 revs (usually) and they have enough savvy to know what the revs should be usually.

Problem is it's all very well passing a static test by lowering the revs but you will still often get done on a drive-by meter.

I was looking at doing a 100dB airfield day - feck, at 9000 RPM mine has gotta be pretty close to that! Will get it tested methinks.

Mine was tested a CC at 102dB with the standard R1 airbox and can at 7500rpm. However, i was told that when going round the track it was one of the quietest cars there!!

Ive found there is usually a bit of "artistic license" you can use on the peak revs, especially if you aren't using the bike clocks so its not immediately obvious where the red line is.

I was tested the other day at Oulton Park, and I measured 97dBa @7500rpm (I said it revved to 10k ). That was with a carbon R1 can and sausage filter.

Hmmm, looks do-able then with a '10K limit', as I also have carbon R1 can and sausage filter. I think it's easy to tweak to max displayed revs on my digital dash

it all depends on which track day you are doing. most will go on the 2/3rds max revs which also gives you a bit more leeway as opposed to the 3/4 max
mine reads 99db to 104db depending on who is using the sound meter!!!!!

R1 engine with pipercross filter and mk exhaust.

My R1 engined car reads 101dB(a) at 8800 RPM on an uncalibrated meter. I have a 6" x 26" repackable stainless silencer on a 4 into 1 headder. Should be fine for the 105dB circuits.

unfortunatley they take the reading at the exhaust side.
it should be 0.5 metre from the exhaust exit @ 45 degrees
reading at 2/3 max rpm

Readings are usually taken at 3/4 max revs. My car is louder 0.5m from the bonnet on the exhaust side than it is 0.5m from the tailpipe.

In the end I was tested at 7,000 RPM and made 99 dB (limit 100!) so just scraped through! This is with standard R1 can.
