How best to degrease new discs?
Hi, I wonder what method to use to degrease brand new brake discs that come with a thin film of oil on them for protection. Soap and water?
Dishwasher?
I am changing the disc on my tintop and assume the oil would not help braking performance...
Thanks!

I usually clean them off with two lots of clean petrol, then wipe with a clean rag or paper towel. Never a problem.

Get a can of brake cleaner from halfords or your motor factors. A quick spray on your new discs and a wipe with some kitchen paper will get them
degreased in seconds.

It probably would - but it contains a fair amount of salt, so that and the water probably won't do the disks any good!
The brake cleaner in a can is wonderful stuff - I often use it for degreasing other stuff as well.

Just make sure that you use it a well-ventilated place - highly volatile and very smelly!

I vote for methylated spirits. I wouldn't use petrol as it leaves an oily residue...
Sprits of some sort that will fully evaporate is what is required
