Engine Overhaul

I'm going to overhaul the 2.0l Pinto engine that I have. Can anyone recomend a good engineering company near Warwick that can carry out work like honing and balancing etc..?

Thanks

Try Chesmans in Coventry, They do a lot of performance machining and ballancing.

I WOULD JUST BUY A ZETEC .
it would be cheaper in the short run and long run .
i just got a quote to rebore an xflow to 1700cc and it was £400 from one company and £480 from another

Was that for a rebore to 1700 or rebore and build the whole engine for that money? Rebores round here were £25 a bore last time I had one done.

For a rebore expect to pay around £60+Vat then you will need oversize pistons and rings. Probably worth going to a 2.1 overbore if your block will take it. Keep an eye out on ebay for a set of 2.25mm oversize pistons and conrods to save a serious amount of cash.

For dynamic balancing not many engine companies have the gear to do it, and it might need to be sent off. I never got around to getting mine balanced in its current state of tune. Unless you plan on revving to over 7000rpm regularly i wouldnt bother, though it does make the engine run nicer!

If your block just needs honing you can do it yourself.

Thanks everyone.

I'm only looking to do the minimum to this engine to get it through SVA. I just wanted to make sure it was tight, had good compression and didn't burn oil.

Suggestions are welcome?

Put it in, get it running and find out what it's like . You never know you may be lucky and it's not a huge amount of work .

In which case does it actually need doing? If it's just a for now jobbie, why not just paint it, change the oil and slap it in!

I used this company for my cylinder head preparation. They were quite helpful and reasonably priced. They are near Oxford.

If you are not in a desparate hurry I will be selling mine very soon as I am upgrading to a zetec.
2.0 rebuilt 8000 miles ago. I still have the receipt. Rebored, Reground, Lightened, balanced, injection head, 285 cam, rs2000 ally sump, 4 branch. I may even let the bike carbs and megajolt go with it.

I visit Bedworth every weekend so could even drop it over for you. Let me know if you are interested as it will be going in the for sale section in a couple of weeks.

Failing that I would recommend Chessman Engineering. If the standards haven't dropped since Andy's demise then they are a top set up. They used to do most of the machining on my race engines.
