how long do those batteries last (ie before they're knackered and can't hold a charge) and how much does it weigh? Those would be the
deciders for me. Looks damn good though.

No it is not. It is built by Tesla motors, though the chassis is licensed from Lotus (elise).
The car has encorporated more carbon than elise, is very light. The electric engine puts out 248hp, and w/ instant torque and a 13,500 redline! It has
done 0-60 in around 4. Wave of the future.

Interesting. I assumed that the Albuquerque site was also for the roadster, but it according to wiki it is only for the new sedan. Wiki seems to have
some interesting info on Tesla Motors and the Roadster. It turns out that, though the chassis was originally based on the Elise, it has actually been
altered for the Roadster, and it is being produced in Norway. The batteries are produced in Thailand. The brakes in Germany.

From the site they the battries should last imn excess of 100k miles, carnt seem to find the weight of the thing though.
