unknown item wanted for indy

now i'm not even sure how to explain to you what i'm looking for but here goes

i want to fasten the boot cover (fiberglass) to the back lip of the indy (fiberglass), what i'm looking for is some clips that take a self tapper screw and i'm not sure what they are called, they are i think made from thin strips of folded sprung steel with a cut in them to put a self tapper through and they slide over the bit that you want to fasten to like a very thin u-shape

now can any of you mind reader know what i'm thinking of and where i can get 4 or 5 of them ?

many thanks

Edge panel fasteners is what you're after, commonly used in cars to mount things like speakers into thin steel panels.

I've used them to mount my grille into the nose cone - works a treat.

If you have a car hifi place locally, they may have some if not a trip to a breakers yard would get you some.

Other place is Woolies (google woolies for trim) I'm sure I've seen them in their catalogue

In my experience the Velcro itself is great, but the adhesive that holds the velcro tape onto the part is pants and just gives way before the Velcro does.

You can get industrial strength Velcro. We used it at work and it does stick like poo. Think you can get it at Maplins or B&Q etc

They're called jack nuts.

See www.bracewood.co.uk as they do some. They are like rivnuts for use on fibreglass and other brittle materials.

But instead of a self-tapper you'd need to use machine screws (must better in my opinion)

Rivnuts are fine in fibreglass just don't overtighten them.

Much easier than buying something also if you have them already.

Rich.

We fitted ours like this and never had any problems. We just used the small M4 or 5 Ali rivnuts. I think if using the non ali ones it would be easy to split the fiberglass.
